DOJ: Federal Contractor Retaliated Against Employee for Protected Whistleblowing

· From The Front Line

The Department of Justice’s Office of Inspector General recently determined that The Mirror, Inc., a Newton, Kansas halfway house operator with Bureau of Prisons contracts, retaliated against our client for engaging in protected whistleblower activities. The reports addressed, among other things, potential violations of the Prison Rape Elimination Act.

A copy of the DOJ’s press release is available here. The DOJ was empowered to investigate our client’s claim of whistleblower retaliation under 41 U.S.C. 4712, a provision of the National Defense Authorization Act. NDAA protects employees from reprisal for reporting wrongdoing connected with federal grants and contracts.
