EEOC Determines That Title VII Prohibits Sexual Orientation Discrimination

· Legal Updates

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission recently determined that discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Complainant v. Foxx, EEOC Appeal No. 0120133080, 2015 WL 4397641 (July 16, 2015). This decision comes on the heels of the Supreme Court’s ruling that requires States to recognize same-sex marriages. Obergefell v. Hodges, No. 14-556 (U.S. June 26, 2015).
